Norsaac in partnership with the Ghana Health Service has launched a health fair aimed at promoting healthy behaviors and services in the Upper West Region.
The three-day health fair being hosted at Jubilee Park in the Wa is to run from 17th to 19th September 2024 and is under the theme “Promoting Good Life through the Adoption of positive health behaviours”
Participants were drawn from various health service providers, Traditional authorities, Students and civil society organizations.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Damien Punguyiri, the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, hinted at a wide range of services and activities to be carried out within the three days to encourage healthy behaviours and practices. These include health education sessions, blood donation drives, health screenings for various ailments, family planning promotion, WASH activity demonstrations, proper use of long-lasting insecticide nets, Nutrition and Maternal and Childcare
“The primary goal for this fair is to generate demand for essential health services and products and to foster measurable behaviour change,” he stated.
Dr. Damien made an appeal to private health service providers to support the Regional Health Directorate in delivering quality health care service across the Upper West Region.
Delivering the Keynote Speech on the topic “Importance of Health and Wellness”, the Sisaala West District Director of Health Service, Dr. Mathias, noted that “Health is Wealth”. He described the fair as a system to promote good health and livelihood.
Executive Director for Norsaac, Mr. Mohammed Awal Alhassan, indicated that Norsaac is now operational in Seventeen Districts across Ghana and that plans were advanced to expand their operations to cover Sixty Districts. Mr. Awal hinted that the health fair will soon be held across the districts and added that the aim of decentralizing it was to promote access to health services and products.
