The newly elected Executive Committee of the Upper West Regional Athletics Association (UWRAA), spearheaded by Chairman Mr Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, has officially commenced a strategic series of courtesy and introductory visits across the region.
The high-level engagements, which began yesterday, August 6, 2026, are designed to formally introduce the new leadership, outline their vision for the revitalisation of athletics in the region, and cultivate essential partnerships with traditional authorities, religious leaders, security agencies, and key public institutions.
During the initial leg of the tour, the delegation visited eminent religious leaders, including the Chief Imam of Wa, the Wa Yari Naa, and the Regional Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission.
The religious leaders offered warm welcomes and prayers for the new executive team, urging them to maintain focus and prioritise the development of talent at the grassroots level. Responding to the reception, Chairman Mornah emphasised the transformative power of athletics. He appealed to the leaders to utilise their platforms to shift public perceptions, highlighting that athletics is a vital tool for fostering discipline, healthy living, education, employment, and national unity.
On the second day of the tour, the Committee extended it’s outreach to critical state and traditional institutions, including the Regional Office of the National Sports Authority and His Royal Majesty, the Wa Naa. The team also engaged with regional commanders of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Commander of the 10 Mechanised Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Wa Naa received the new executives with optimism, expressing his belief that the initiative would help the Upper West Region regain its lost prominence in the sporting arena. The Association underscored its intent to forge strategic partnerships with these institutions to support the regeneration of athletics throughout the region.
As the UWRAA embarks on this new chapter, the Executive Committee has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to professionalism, transparency, and grassroots development. The leadership aims to systematically reposition the Upper West Region as one of Ghana’s premier athletics hubs.
