The air in the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency is filled with a renewed sense of hope and tangible progress. For decades, the soil of this vibrant constituency has known the footprints of dedicated public service, from the pioneering foundational years under veteran representation to the dynamic, results-driven leadership of the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah.

Addressing journalists, community leaders, and constituents during a comprehensive press briefing, the Constituency Communication Officer, BT Sly (Biekpe Sylvester), laid bare an impressive scorecard of transformation. Spanning the period from January 2025 to September 2026 and working together with the administration of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the MP’s tenure has proven that true leadership is measured by the tangible difference made in ordinary lives.

Education remains the greatest equaliser in Nadowli-Kaleo, and Hon. Sumah has spared no effort in keeping classroom doors open and aspirations alive. Through the dedicated Tess Fund, an amount of GHC 418,821 has been disbursed to 158 tertiary students, while 183 students have secured vital GetFund scholarships. Additional educational administrative support, school re-roofing projects (such as the Charikpong R/C JHS), and dual-desk provisions have gulped hundreds of thousands of cedis to create conducive learning environments.

In a powerful display of collaborative leadership alongside Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, over 16,000 school children received free school uniforms this year. Furthermore, recognising that youth development extends beyond the four walls of a classroom, over GHC 89,300 was channelled into sports infrastructure, football galas, jersey distributions, and backing local division side Exponential FC.

A healthy community is a productive community. Over the last twenty-one months, substantial financial resources, totalling close to GHC 600,000, have been injected into healthcare infrastructure and medical outreach across the constituency.

A major focus of these investments has been maternal care, where the ongoing construction and roofing of maternity wards in Jang, Loho, and Tangasie are transforming access to health services. These facilities ensure that expectant mothers no longer have to travel perilous distances for safe deliveries.

In addition to physical infrastructure, public health screenings and youth outreach have addressed critical medical concerns. Community-wide initiatives have included targeted screenings for Hepatitis B and liver cancer, specialised eye-care screenings for the elderly, and vital campaigns targeting drug abuse among the youth.

Bridging the infrastructural deficit across the constituency has been a monumental task, but relentless lobbying and prudent resource allocation are yielding tangible results. Navigating the area is becoming progressively smoother, as activities under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and key stakeholder partnerships have driven vital road reshaping, culvert construction, and grading exercises. These critical road enhancements have effectively opened up once-isolated remote farming communities, connecting them seamlessly to major local market centres.

At the same time, substantial strides have been made to secure essential utilities such as clean water and electricity for everyday living. Recognising that potable water dictates community health and survival, 20 manual pump boreholes were drilled across Takpo, Charikpong, and Nadowli, complemented by additional borehole installations from Lifetime Wells, repair works on the Sorikuo Dam, and the strategic extension of the Sombo Small-Town Water System.

Parallel to these water interventions, rural electrification projects have received a major boost, highlighted by completed projects in Da-Dambaa, grid extensions to Goli, Charikpong, and Nator Naayiri, as well as the distribution of over 150 streetlights and electricity poles to empower local self-help community extensions.

True development must put food on the table and foster financial independence. To cushion families against economic hardships, the MP’s office rolled out extensive livelihood interventions.

As part of agricultural support, over 280 bags of fertiliser and 40 cartons of inorganic liquid fertiliser were distributed directly to farmers to boost crop yields.

In addition to agricultural assistance, social safety nets were strengthened through the distribution of essential food supplies, including rice, maize, and sugar, to vulnerable families and selected groups. Furthermore, startup business support funds, sewing machines for aspiring tailors in Kpazie, and specialised weaving materials for visually impaired entrepreneurs have kindled self-reliance across the district.

As BT Sly emphasised during the press conference, development is not a destination; it is an ongoing, evolving journey. While Hon. Anthony Sumah has directly invested over GHC 2.4 million, supplemented by national central government projects under President John Mahama (such as dormitory blocks, expanded CHPS compounds, modern markets, and massive LEAP disbursements), which have fundamentally altered the socio-economic landscape of Nadowli-Kaleo, much work remains.

The call to action is clear: unity, peace, and steadfast support for leadership will anchor the next phase of growth. With a Member of Parliament who listens, an industrious citizenry, and fruitful institutional collaborations, the story of Nadowli-Kaleo continues to shine as a beacon of progressive democratic governance.
