NASCO Feeding Minds, REFFECT Africa, and other 25 partners collaborated in the installation of a gasification plant funded by the European Union at the Tuna SHS/Technical School last month in the Savannah Region.
The University of Natural Resources here in Ghana and the Jain University of Spain provided supervision and technical support during the build-up of the plant while some locals have been trained in the running of the plant.
The Headteacher of the Tuna SHS/Technical Mr. James Zinkotaa Baabotaa assured the partners of the school’s commitment to utilizing the plant to their ability. He however called on the implementors to take its annual maintenance seriously to maximize its benefit.
“On behalf of the district education director, I will like to assure all and sundry, especially the donors that management would ensure that the facility is used for its intended purpose. However I appeal to the engineers and the technical team to ensure that maintenance work is caried out annually” Mr. Zinkotaa added

The led Technical Adviser of NASCO Feeding Minds, Mr. Haruna Mohammed said edifice is to benefit the society and more especially famers.
He explained that the production plant aside producing electricity, it also produce liquified gas for the school Kitchen which is used in preparing their meals and that farmers would have to produce the raw materials which happens to be farm waste.
He said galvanizing farm waste is what the plant is designed for and as such farmers can sale their farm waste to the plant. This he believes would give the farmer some more income.
“Waste that is generated on the farms after harvesting and waste that is generated after processing of the farm produce is what is used as a feedstock to power the plant” Haruna Mohammed said.
The plant is estimated to consume three bags of farm wastes per hour processing into over 72 bags per day as that plant can produce up to 300kilowats in a month as there are plans to sell of the power to the the Northern Electricity Distribution Company who were present at the ceremony.
NASCO Feeding Minds expressed willingness to partner with the government to implement similar projects in other parts of the country.
The Managing Director for NASCO Feeding Minds Bonasco Seidu said they are excited to be championing the project and wish to engage major stakeholders to ensure the project is replicated in other area more especially, private sector to consider this alternative power supply.
“We looking forward to major stakeholder engagements, we are looking at major engaging government at policy level, we are interested in meeting the private business community to consider this level of technology to provide additional or alternative electricity and resource management for their institutions or company” he said
The Tuna base plant happens to be the only completed work out of three projects started in the whole of Africa
