Daffiama, Upper West Region – The Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District Assembly has underscored its commitment to supporting its most vulnerable citizens by disbursing significant financial aid to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district.
On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, a total of 41 PWDs received cheques ranging from GH₵2,500 to GH₵10,000 at a brief ceremony held at the Assembly’s conference hall. This disbursement forms part of the government’s dedicated allocation from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for disability support.

Focus on Enhanced Funding for Sustainable Ventures
The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Hon. James Wor, addressed the beneficiaries, confirming the government’s robust financial commitment to the fund.
The government has allocated a share of the Common Fund for the people living with disability in the area, totalling “about GH₵200,000,” Hon. Wor stated. “We are committed to ensuring that your funds are used judiciously and to your benefit. Today, we are gathered here because we want to assist 41 disabled persons.”
Hon. Wor emphasised that the funds distributed this time were deliberately enhanced to move beyond token gestures and enable beneficiaries to start meaningful and sustainable trades.
“Today’s package is going to be an enhanced one. When I came, I looked into your records,” the DCE explained. “Some of you would apply and come for something like GH₵1,000 or GH₵500 to go and do business. In my opinion, that was woefully inadequate.”
Commitment to Independence and Livelihoods
The beneficiaries, who were shortlisted from over 100 applicants, represent diverse groups within the disabled fraternity, including the visually impaired, people with leprosy, and the physically disabled.
Hon. Wor stressed that the investment is aimed at empowering them to become self-sufficient, insisting on the powerful mantra that “Disability is not Inability.”
He urged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely to establish themselves and achieve financial independence. Furthermore, the DCE assured the PWDs that the next round of disbursement would be even better structured to enable them to fully establish and sustain their livelihoods.
