Yesterday evening at about 7:30 pm, an accident occurred at the Wa Airstrip involving a Toyota Hilux Pickup with registration GN 7124-20 and a truck with the registration number GR 4466-14 at the curve leading to the airport main gates.
Shortly after the incident, personnel of the Ghana Police Service were present at the scene. They could be seen directing traffic at the curve while a touring vehicle was setting up to tow the severely damaged pickup away, an eyewitness confirmed.
The eyewitness reported that the driver of the pickup vehicle appeared unhurt after the incident, while also observing that the truck, which was heading out of town, might have negotiated the curve while in the opposing lane, which also had the pickup vehicle negotiating the same curve into the airport overpass.
Some media outlets report that the Pro Vice Chancellor of the Simon Diedong Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies, Prof. Osuman Kanton, is the driver of the Toyota Hilux pickup vehicle.
A crowd had gathered at the scene as the incident had caúsed an instant congestion with several long vehicle trucks heading to a halt at the curve.
The police are yet to comment on the incident.
