Queenmother Boyawurche Lawuratu has made a notable contribution to education in the Savannah Region with the donation of sixty (60) copies of novels authored by a native son of the region to three junior high schools.
The beneficiary institutions are Damongo-Canteen Junior High School Blocks “A” and “B,” and Busunu Saint Peter’s Junior High School.
The donation is aimed at promoting a strong reading culture, improving literacy, and stimulating intellectual development among young learners in the region.
By making books available to these schools, Queenmother Boyawurche Lawuratu has demonstrated a clear commitment to investing in education and empowering the youth.
Her action underscores the belief that access to books is fundamental to shaping confident, informed, and forward-looking students.
Busunu Saint Peter’s JHS holds particular significance in this initiative, as it is the alma mater of the author.
The presentation of the novels to the school was described as a deeply emotional moment, symbolising the fulfillment of a long-held dream, seeing authored works returned to one’s former school and placed into the hands of a new generation of students by a past pupil.
The donation reinforces the idea that investing in education is a mark of true wisdom. Community members and education stakeholders have praised the Queenmother’s initiative as a forward-looking act that prioritises long-term communal development over immediate personal gain.
Queenmother Boyawurche Lawuratu was raised in Canteen and began her education at Canteen Primary School, where she studied up to Class Three. She later attended St. Anne’s Primary School and JSS, continued her secondary education at Damongo Secondary Technical School, and received her professional training at Pusiga College of Education. She served as a teacher at Bole Kurabaso JHS and currently resides in the United Kingdom.
The donation has been warmly welcomed by the beneficiary schools and members of the community, who regard it as a meaningful contribution toward nurturing inspired, literate, and confident future leaders for the Savannah Region and beyond.
