The Lawra Municipality witnessed a significant milestone in water accessibility as the Hon. Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu, Municipal Chief Executive (M.C.E.), officiated the commissioning and handover of six boreholes donated by Action Aid Ghana. The event, held at the community of Pavuu, attracted a wide range of dignitaries, including the Country Director and Regional Manager of ActionAid Ghana, local traditional leaders, and representatives from the beneficiary communities.
In her address, Hon. M.C.E. Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu underscored the importance of these newly commissioned boreholes in addressing the acute water challenges faced by the residents of Lawra. She highlighted that these six boreholes are part of a broader initiative, with plans for an additional nine communities to benefit from similar projects in the near future. This initiative reflects a commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Lawra by enhancing their access to clean and safe drinking water.
The M.C.E. further acknowledged the concerted efforts of the Hon. Member of Parliament for Lawra, Hon. Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng, whose previous projects have laid the groundwork for this significant advancement in water infrastructure. “These boreholes are not just structures; they symbolize hope and a better future for our communities,” Hon. Nuratu remarked.
Emphasizing the importance of sustainability, the M.C.E. urged beneficiaries to ensure the careful management and protection of the boreholes. “It is our collective responsibility to safeguard this precious resource for current and future generations. We must treat these boreholes with the utmost care,” she implored.
