In a significant move to enhance regional stability and social cohesion, the Municipal Chief Executive (M.C.E.) for Lawra, Hon. Cecilia Soyelleh Nuratu, participated in a pivotal one-day training focused on the formation of local groups for cross-border cooperation. The event, held at the Assembly Conference Hall, saw a convergence of various stakeholders, including representatives from local government, regional ministerial delegates, and community leaders, highlighting a communal commitment to fostering cooperation across borders.
The training program, which was meticulously organized by the GIZ SKBoWa Project in conjunction with the African Union Border Support Programme and the Lawra Municipal Assembly, aimed to address the growing concerns surrounding the spillover effects of insurgency in the Sahelian region. The facilitators emphasised the pressing need for collaborative measures to fortify communities against potential threats and to bolster resilience through proactive engagement and networking.
During the training, Hon. Nuratu underscored the critical importance of learning from one another, unlearning outdated practices, and embracing new strategies that will be crucial in the path towards effective cross-border cooperation. She passionately urged attendees to take the insights and methodologies shared during the session and put them into practice for the betterment of the municipality and beyond.
