The Ghana Police Service has announced a breakthrough in the serial killings that have plagued the regional capital of Wa, confirming the arrest of a prime suspect who has allegedly confessed to the murders.
For years, a climate of fear has gripped the municipality. Since 2021, residents have been on high alert following the mysterious murders of several night security guards across the city. The initial wave of killings, which appeared to target watchmen, eventually expanded to include vulnerable individuals with mental health challenges, further heightening anxiety among residents who felt helpless as the investigation unfolded with few public updates.

Those fears have now been significantly eased following recent police revelations. In a press conference, Regional Commander ACP Yirbaare Francis provided chilling details of the investigation that led to the capture of the suspects believed to be behind the string of deaths that have troubled the northwestern part of Ghana.
ACP Francis disclosed that “acting on credible intelligence on October 3, 2025,” and supported by initial forensic analysis, a police team first arrested Mohamuda Lamin. Information gathered during his interrogation swiftly led to the arrest of a second individual, Sherrif Abdulai, a 30-year-old cobbler from the Adabiat suburb, who is considered the prime suspect.

The commander revealed that Sheriff Abdulai is an ex-convict, having previously served a two-year jail term for unlawful entry in Bole, Savannah Region. A search of the suspect uncovered personal belongings of one of the victims, Mr Yahaya Issah. The 55-year-old’s body was discovered on September 21st at a motor mechanic shop in Wa Dobile, which provided the critical breakthrough for investigators.
