Shea Park Hub Ambassadors Lead Advocacy for Mental Health Patients in Wa. The Shea Park Resource Hub is intensifying its commitment to mental health awareness in the Upper West Region.

Last Thursday, the Hub’s Ambassador, Sing Pognaa Chaana Abdul-Raza, visited the BAHAS Mental Home in Wa, where she met with the facility’s CEO, Mr Illiasu Baba, to discuss the critical needs of those undergoing treatment.

Accompanied by fellow team member Nashirudeen Momori, the visit focused on fostering community support and dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health. For Momori, a member of the Shea Park Hub Ambassador team and a former mental health patient, the visit was more than a professional engagement; it was a deeply personal mission.

By drawing on his own journey of recovery, Momori served as a beacon of hope for the patients, proving that healing is possible and that their current circumstances are only temporary.

During the visit, the team emphasised that recovery is not achieved in isolation but through human connection, mutual respect, and community involvement.

Reflecting on his interaction with the patients, Momori shared, “I stand before you not just as an advocate, but as someone who has been exactly where you are. My recovery was not a straight line, but it was possible. When I talk to them, I want them to see that there is a life waiting for them beyond these walls, and that hope is something they can reclaim every single day”.

Sing Pognaa Chaana Abdul-Raza highlighted that the Shea Park Resource Hub project is designed to foster local development and provide essential resources for vulnerable individuals. She urged stakeholders and the public to contribute to the well-being of the patients, emphasising that collective effort is essential to ensuring the BAHAS Mental Home can continue its vital work effectively.

By turning personal experience into purpose, the Shea Park Hub Ambassador team is shifting the narrative around mental health in Wa. Through their ongoing advocacy, they are ensuring that patients feel heard, valued, and empowered, reinforcing the belief that shared experience and community support are the most powerful tools for lasting healing.
