The Upper West Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended four suspects linked to a series of violent robberies in the Wa West District. The arrests follow intensive intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing recent criminal activity in the area.
The suspects, as disclosed in a statement, are allegedly responsible for two separate attacks occurring near the Gadi and Chogsia communities:
On February 28, 2026, a teacher, Thomas Dormatey, was shot in the leg and robbed of his mobile phone and GHC 2,600 in cash, while on March 8, 2026, at about 7:30 PM, a second victim, Issah Ibrahim, was robbed of his mobile phone and GHC 2,750 while returning from the Jagluu community.
In both instances, the perpetrators were reported to be masked and armed with firearms and machetes, emerging from nearby bushes to ambush their victims.
Following a coordinated police operation, three primary suspects were arrested at Chogsia and positively identified by the victims.
During the arrest, Iddrisu Sidibey, 19, Abdulai Bandey, 20, and Suleman Issah Zibrim, 23, were arrested, and police recovered two cutlasses and four mobile phones as evidence.
On March 11, 2026, suspect Abdulai Bandey led authorities to Gojiyiri, where they arrested Abdul Rahman Abdulai, the alleged supplier of the firearm used in the crimes. The weapon was later recovered from a concealed location in the bush.
Police are currently pursuing two additional accomplices, known as Adil and Sambo, who remain at large.
The four suspects were arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate’s Court and remanded into custody. They are scheduled to reappear in court on March 26, 2026.
