As 2026 unfolds, Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has delivered a stirring New Year message from his hometown of Sankana. His address was a wide-ranging “state of the continent” call to action, touching on everything from continental democratic failures to the immediate economic struggles of Ghanaian farmers.

He has called on the African Union not to shut up on the bad democratic practices, such as rigging elections and leaving citizens poor in Africa.
Mr Mornah named countries such as Togo, the Ivory Coast, and Cameroon as countries where leaders have used power to maltreat their citizens and rigged elections to the silence of the African Union.
“I call on the African union to rise with courage and clarity, defending the sovereignty of member states while firmly confronting leaders who rig elections and undermine the democratic will of their people”, he added
He also called on neocolonial forces interfering in the affairs of African countries that do not serve their interest alone. Warning them to allow Africa to chart its own destiny.

He also lauded the minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, for giving attention to “underfunded disciplines such as Basketball, Volleyball, Arm wrestling and Handball”, he said, while calling on the government to consider nurturing and grooming talents to help create employment for the youth.
Mr Mornah, however, called on the government to intervene in buying farm produce from farmers at economically viable prices to prevent food glut in the system.
‘I can not gloss over or ignore the severe burden of high input costs during the 2025 farming season. I strongly urge the government to intervene decisively by purchasing grains and cereals, particularly the current glut of maize and rice at economically viable prices,” he stated.
