President John Dramani Mahama is expected in Wa this afternoon to cut the sod for the construction of the critical Wa-Han-Tumu-Navrongo road, a project set to link the Upper West and Upper East regions.
The announcement has been described as a “liberation” for the region by Mr Denis, the Constituency Communication Officer for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa.
Mr Denis explained that the region’s roads have remained in a “terrible” condition for a long time. He stated that President Mahama’s intention to launch the project demonstrates a new, strategic focus on the Upper West, given its vital position within the West African road network.

He highlighted that the earmarked routes function as “international roads,” essential for transporting goods to neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso and beyond.
Mr Denis also forcefully dismissed any assertions that the roads have already been worked on, insisting that “they are left in a very terrible state now.”
The communication officer framed the project as part of the government’s “Big Push” agenda, calling it a “testament that the NDC means well for the good people of the region.”
He further assured that quality would not be compromised, referencing the president’s stern caution to contractors with only “wheelbarrows and shovels” not to bother applying for work on such a major project.
