In a bid to strengthen Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts, stakeholders in Wa recently convened to engage in the development of the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NEACAP 2026–2030). The session, facilitated by the National Anti-Corruption Programme (NACP) under the Office of the President, drew over 120 participants from various sectors, including government, civil society, the private sector, and traditional and religious groups.
Keynote speaker Jonathan Gador, Policy and Research Coordinator of NACP, highlighted the focus on ethics in the new anti-corruption strategy. He emphasised the importance of instilling ethical behaviour to combat corruption effectively. The plan aims to institutionalise ethics and compliance, with organisations undergoing ethical certification and being graded on a scale from EACC 1.0 to 5.0, enabling access to government contracts based on their ratings.
Representing the Upper West Regional Minister, Regional Coordinating Director Pognaa Fati Issaka Koray reiterated the shared responsibility in the fight against corruption. He called for collective action from the media, civil society, traditional and religious leaders, and citizens to uphold integrity and accountability in governance. The Minister urged participants to ensure the outcomes of the engagement translate into tangible actions, emphasising the need for NEACAP to be a living guide that informs decision-making at all levels.
The success of NEACAP 2026–2030 hinges on the collective willpower to resist corruption, speak truth to power, and uphold ethical standards in Ghana. Stakeholders are committed to embracing this responsibility and working together towards a future where integrity and accountability are not just ideals but lived realities in the nation.
