The 2013 year group of St. Maria Goretti Junior High School in Nandom has donated three whiteboards, six packs of markers, and dusters to their alma mater to support teaching and learning.
The presentation was held on Monday, 8th September 2025, at the school premises.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, Mr. Naawa Richmond, who led some of his colleagues to make the donation, said the gesture was their way of giving back to the school that nurtured them.
“I was surprised when I learnt that my former school still used chalk. Our school is one of the best in the municipality and doesn’t deserve to still use chalk in this era,” he noted.
Receiving the items, the Headmaster, Mr. John Baptist Gyel-ir, expressed gratitude to the group for their thoughtfulness. He said the donation would go a long way to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the school.
Mr. Gyel-ir acknowledged that the school continues to grapple with many challenges but assured that management is making efforts to address them. He appealed to other year groups, institutions, and benevolent individuals to emulate the example of the 2013 group.
With an enrollment of over 300 students, the school currently has only 10 desktop computers serving the entire population. He further noted that while Block A has now transitioned to whiteboards, Block B still relies on chalk. He therefore called for additional support to ensure both streams benefit from modern teaching facilities.
